Blepharitis and Eye Infections

Last summer I contracted Blepharitis and it has been coming and going for the past five months. While I realize that you cannot cure the problem, has anyone had any luck keeping down the frequency of the eye infections? I have not had a full blown infection since October, but I can feel my eye filling up, become puffy and then the doctor tells me there is bacteria in the eye and he prescribes antibiotic drops. It has now fallen into a predictable pattern: infection, drops and one-two weeks later another infection. I currently do lid scrubs twice a day and seem to have the eyelashes reasonably under control but the bacteria in the eye is still there. Has anyone had a doctor give them alternative therapies rather than rely solely on antibiotic drops?
