Blind spot and seeing red

by tapparmy, Nov 07, 2009 11:04PM
For over 48 hours, I have has a small blind spot in the direct vision line of my left eye. If Im looking at something a few few away, its about the size of a penny. Just a few moments ago, I noticed standing outside, that if I look at a white street light with the same eye, the lights appears red. Ive never had any vision problems in the past. Ive had LASIK surgery about 8 years ago with no symptoms. Yesterday when I woke up and this problem started, I had a fever and flu symptoms, which were gone when I woke up today. What gives?

Do you mean that the "blind spot" appears red when you look at a white street light?  If so, it sounds like you have a small hemorrhage in your retina, in the sensitive 'straight ahead' location called the macula.  This can be caused by straining (eg weight-lifting) or hard coughing or wretching.

You should be examined by an Eye MD ophthalmologist sometime this week.  S/he may want to check your blood clotting factors.
