Blunt eye trauma

I had blunt eye trauma last December 7 2009  from cutting firewood, a branch came back and hit me right smack on my closed eye lid. It popped the lens right out into the chamber of the eye. It also tore the most of iris away with it. I had a lensectomy and a vitrectomy on December 14 2009 and now four months later it is really starting to heal nicely. I go back to the opthamologist this coming week to be fitted with a contact lens to have some sight back again, in the fall I am going to have an iol implant and iris dialysis done. So with all of this you can imagine I've been on a whole lot of drops , I guess I don't have a question as advice to a lot of posters here on this forum with eye injury don't expect instant results, I'm into 4 months post surgery and its only now that the last two stiches are dissolving. Going to be a fun ride. cheers, got to keep a positive attitude, makes healing faster!

An update, was back to see the opthamologist Jan 11, he said everything is good, the eye is quiet now. Retina looks great, he also examined my good eye and it is fine. He asked how I was getting along with the contact and I said good, it shifts a tiny bit now and then , he said that it is normal with the extent of the injury that I had and to try using some wetting drops. He has started more weaning of the Maxidex, now its one drop every two days, Cosopt remains the same at two drops daily. I'm pleased that I'm getting along so well.. the only advice I can give is to listen to the opthamologist, follow what they say, also very important do your drops as prescribed. He said he has seen a lot of trouble with people because they don't do there meds correctly and especially with the eye, there are usually no second chances. cheers

Just wanted to update, received the custom contact yesterday sept 20, what a difference to have some vision back in the left eye. My opthamologist said it would be a few weeks for my brain to get used to the depth of field again. If I get along good with it, he may wait a year or so to have permanent surgery ( iol, artificial iris etc.) He said the longer in between operations the better results I will have years down the road. I'm down to two drops of cosopt daily and one of maxidex, he said maxidex will be weaned off in the near future. cheers

Don't forget: protect both your eyes, especially your uninjured eye from another trauma
