Blurred vision

Hello,
I am a 28 year old with astigmitism and am pretty near sighted.  I started wearing glasses at age 9, have been wearing contact lenses since about age 12.  I switched from soft contacts to gas permeable lenses about 5 years ago (and am still wearing the same pair).
My problem is blurred vision in my left eye.  I had my eyes examined by my optometrist about 1 month ago because my left eye was irritated from my contact lenses.  He said my eyelid was irritated because of build-up on my contacts.  He polished the lenses, and they seemed to be more comfortable.  About 1 week ago I was back in for a routine eye dilation, and mentioned that my vision now seemed a bit blurred in my left eye and that it burned a lot.  He determined that my eye looked better than on the previous exam, and seemed unconcerned.  Well, now I can see very little out of my left eye with my glasses on. I picked up my new prescription (which was about the same as my old one) for my eyeglasses on Friday, and I can't see out the left lense of my new glasses either.  I can see pretty well with my contacts, but can hardly get my left one in because it burns so badly.  My optometrist is out of the office until midweek, and I am somewhat concerned/frustrated.  My vision has decreased quite rapidly this past week in this eye with my glasses on.  Please forgive my grammatical mistakes, as I can hardly see to type this.

I have very few comments to make except to see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.  It is not common to have such a decrease in vision without something going on in the eye.  It is hard to speculate without examining your eyes.  This should be done with urgency.
