Blurry Vision after Moebius operation

Blurry Vision after Moebius operation

My 17 year old son recently underwent a unique 18 hour operation whereby a muscle from the inner thigh was removed and transplanted in his cheek, thus ultimately to create a smile.  He was born with Moebius Syndrome (causes facial paralysis)and has no 6th & 7th cranial nerve.  The operation was a success and doctors are happy with his progress.  Before he was discharged, he complained about blurred vision and there was no reason to suspect any complication because of the op.

We have since taken him for an eye test and the optometrist says there is swelling behind the eye.  For at least two days after the op his eyes was quite puffy and swollen. My question to you is, will this go down given time or should we take him to a Opthamologist for further testing.

If you were told by an optometrist that there was 'swelling behind the eye' you should have been referred to a comprehensive medical eye examination by an ophthalmologist (Eye MD).  I would schedule one as soon as possible.  Also 7th cranial nerve problems can lead to eye damage due to difficulty closing and blinking the eye.
