Blurry dim double vision

Over the past several years I've had alot of problems with my eyes (mainly my right eye). It all started about 6 yrs ago with my vision going dim. Then my right eye became blurry and significantly darker than my left eye.  So, around april I had some other neuro issues, and eventually went to see a Ophthamalogist.  He ran some tests and discovered I had diplopia when I looked up. I thought most saw two images when looking that far. Well, he told me I could go see a neuro -ophth. and maybe even consider surgery for my weak eye muscles. But, I decided to wait.  I was also told about the possibility of having MS. So, over the months a new problem developed and I started seeing splotches on my computer screen when I'd look at a white background. Also when I'd wake up I'd sometimes see distorted colors on images. Lastly, I came across a site about low contrast vision and I noticed I couldn't see gray and brown colors well. The images just didn't pop out enough for me.

So, I guess I'm just curious if this sounds like any certain disorder or disease? I also have fibromyalgia, and wondered maybe if this could also be part of it??

I do get floaters, and I've had those since I was a teen. This is kind of different. I intermittently get shadows of beige behind the print when I'm reading. It's behind each word, not just one splotch. But I'll look up scotoma and see what that is.

Have a Happy Easter!

Probably not.  Could be floaters or some type of scotoma is visual field that would show up on visual field test.

Thanks so much for your advice. I did have a TSH done in August which was normal. But I'll ask my doc if she thinks I need to do it again.  But would that explain the spotches I see when reading too?

Make sure thyroid disease is at least looked into - it is a  possible cause of double vision in upgaze and could also worsen dry eyes and potentially blurry vision.

I did have a full exam as well as a field test back in october by the Ophth. Everything looked fine minus a corneal pannus (sp?) found on my left eye.  My doc did say that the problem could be neurological and would be deeper behind the optic nerve.  I also had an MRI in July to look for brain lesions. Due to being claustrophobic I opted for an Upright MRI, and the films weren't very good. Nothing was found on the images.

I don't see a relation to the fibromyalgia here - but there are certainly two problems that deserve attention, the double vision in upgaze and blurred vision.  What I didn't hear from you is a detailed report on your current vision and ocular health from your ophthalmologist.  Yes, you do have some significant symptoms that need to be looked into from an ophthalmologist.  I don't want to speculate on what possible problems could be the root cause.  MS is one disease that could possibly explain your symptoms but there are many others as well.  Suggest you see neuro-ophthalmologist.
