Blurry vision with severe headaches to follow

Posted by Tracie Baise on April 28, 1999 at 23:22:06
Hello,
For 4 days now my husband has been having episodes of blurry vision to start then cannot see anthing, this lasts for  probably 10 minutes then is followed by severe headaches.  He went to emergency yesterday and they did a CT scan and all came back normal.  They gave him Vicadin for the pain which isn't helping.  He has had at least 4 episodes of it today.  He 27 years old in fairly good shape.  He hasn't had a headache since his senior year in high school and he also wears glasses.  Could you please try to help us find a route to take other than keep going to the family doctor as the ER suggested?
Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Tracie

Tracie,
Without examining your husband, it is difficult to say for sure what he has.  It is encouraging that the CT is normal.  Since he has had headaches for many years, he may have migranes (migraines).  Migranes (migraines) can be associated with visual problems thought typically, vision problems tend to occur shortly before the headache.
I recommend that he have a full eye examination by an ophthalmolgist to make sure nothing is wrong with the eyes.  If that is normal, he may need to be seen by a neurologist to further evaluate the headaches.

Sincerely,
