Bright light when eyes are dialeted

Bright light when eyes are dialeted

I went thru an eye examination due to a fly that I was seeing in my left eye, everywhere I looked I could see it. An Opthalmologist dialeted my eye and put a light very close to examine it but kept it on for about 10 to 15 minutes  and  was hurting. Can this light damage my retina ? I feel it was too long on my eye and there was no need for such a long time to have this bright light inside my eye. I am worried

No.  He did a careful exam.  At times it is difficult to see details especially if the patient keeps moving their eye.
