Bubbling eyeball...

Recently, my mother visited our local walk-in clinic with what appeared to be a severe eye irritation. However, her eye also appeared to be bubbling. I've seen other posts about bubbles in the eye, but her eye was VISIBLY bubbling. The white of her eye also ballooned, as if filled with air itself. The doctor on duty had no idea what the cause could be after an extensive examination....My mother's eye was flushed, and she was given eye drops and sent home. After a few hours, it went away. BUT, this has since become a recurring problem for her. This happens to her frequently and unexpectedly. Any ideas on what could cause such a thing?

It should be checked by an Ophthalmologist.

The problem could be "orbital emphysema" which can come from the tear duct being lacerated or the valve incompetent and conducting air from the nasopharynx to the eye tissues or it can occur after fractures into the paraocular sinuses'
