by hungdark, Jan 22, 2008 08:15PM
My nephew got congenitial cataract on his right eye. He is now 11 and just had Phaco surgery. The problem is his eye gets amplyopia. How can he adjust and restore his vision? Do you all have any document related to vision correction?

Amblyopia is very difficult and often impossible to improve after age 5-6. With the cataract off its no likely that his vision will recover to 20/20

It will take several months to know how much comes back.

Also realize that the incidence of amblyopia is about 2% EXCEPT in families where someone has amblyopia then it jumps to 20%.  Everyone in your family with small children should have them examined by an Eye MD by age 3 at the latest.
