Can IOLs be safely replaced, if one has history of retinal detachment surgeries?

Can IOLs be safely replaced, if one has history of retinal detachment surgeries?

I have had IOLs since 1988, but the right IOL was not put in properly, as I get astigmatism with it.

I am curious if IOLs can be safely exchanged for current-technology IOLs, if one has
a history of retinal detachment surgeries (scleral buckle, silicon oil, gas-bubble injection)?

Thanks

Richard

One should never use the word "safely" when refering to surgery because all surgery involves risk and complications. Having said that if the indications for a lens exchange were present your previous surgery should be rule the procedure out.
