Can Vistaril use & stress cause blepharospasm?

by Deb1023, Aug 24, 2009 10:59PM
I have been using Vitaril for the past 7 weeks for anxiety. It has really helped that, but lately my eyes have been burning and sore and blinking more than usual with some forceful spasms. The muscles around my eyes hurt as well.
I know that antihistamines really dry out the eyes and sinus cavities, but can they also trigger blepharospasm?
If so, is it reversible if I stop using the Vistaril? I quit the night before last when my eyes got terribly sore & I was so dry in my mouth & sinuses that they hurt also. I am terrified of the idea of having BEB. It is incurable and progressive, and a horrible condition. It's so horrible. I am praying that the Vistaril has irritated things to cause the symptoms, but that it will go away in time if I don't take the Vistaril anymore. I was using it 3-4 x a day (50 mg.) for the first 6 wks., and recently 1-2 x a day. I read that antihistamines are actually used to help the spasms of BEB once someone has it, but my big question is "Can it cause BEB to begin, & is it reversible if the drug is stopped?? Thank you so much!

What is BEB?  See an ophthalmologist.

I'm sorry, BEB is abbreviated for Benign Essential Blepharospasm.
