Can"t explain:

Can"t explain:

  I am a profesional shooter / marksman,
I am at a complete loss for my problem.
My dominant (right eye) eye vision has
been fading for about 2 years now. It
is extremely hard to explain but the
only way I can explain it is it feels
like there is an oily film that
secretes over my eye causing blurry
vision. I went to an Opthamologist
about one year ago and had a complete
eye exam,. He informed me that I had
20-15 vision, at that time I could not
explain this problem as well as I can
now and  was only complainig about
blurred vision. I have recently have
been diagnosed having an extremely high
  cholesterol level in my blood...(aprox.
  300) Is it possible that my high
  cholesterol is causing this problem???
How do I cure It???? Any recommendation
  would be appreciated!!

while i cannot be completely sure without examining you, i think your problem may be relatively simple and completely unrelated to your cholesterol. there are numerous tiny glands on our eyelids that secrete a portion of our tear film. they are called meibomian glands and they secrete the fatty or "oily" portion of our tear film ( sound familiar? ) when these glands get plugged ( and they often do ) they cause the tear film to malfunction, and often the tear film becomes "oily" and can literally blur vision. now to be fair, this should be something that comes and goes- it should not be uniformly constant. also i would expect it to affect both eyes, though it may be uneven. finally, it is often accompanied by a "foreign body " sensation.  it is formally called " meibomian gland dysfunction" and it is ofetn overlooked. it's treatment is usually simple- warm compress massages to the eyelids once or twice a day. to be fair, there are numerous other possible causes for your problem, including an early catarct. i recommend another evaluation by an ophthalmologist.  good luck.
