Cataract Developing

by rodan, Apr 21, 2008 02:12PM
My doctor told me on a recent visist I am developing cataracts, mostly in my left eye. I have glaucoma, take three types of medication eye drops for it ( Alphagan, Cosopt, and Lumigan ). I'm 55 years old.
I asked him if is going to remove them. He said not till they more fully develop.
How long could this take?

That's a good question.  We usually talk about removing the cataract when the vision has dropped to a significant level AND is bothering you and interfering with normal daily activities.  It just depends on how quickly the cataract develops and how bothered you are by the vision.  It could be anywhere from 6 -12 months or 6-12 years or more.  When you have cataract surgery you  may very well need a combined cataract and glaucoma surgery because  your pressure appears difficult to control.  Your question can be best answered by your personal doctor.
