Cataract IOL/Monofocal/Astygmatism

I have the same issues. Left eye cataract removed followed by monofocal IOL. I have(had?) astygmatism but a 'relaxing incision' was done. Surgery was 1 week ago. I now have some sort of interference or block in my peripheral vision. (like something is actually blocking my field of vision). Also, beginning the day before yesterday, I (not the day after surgery) I have double vision.

Doctor, please directly address the occurrence of double vision or ghost images and also of blocking peripheral vision.
Thank you.

Had cataract surgery in left eye,it is placed improperly, towards the nose and high.  It was also too strong since I had mono surgery, the balance was awful.  I now see double while watching TV and if I am in a dark environment, see everything in the light as a double vision(people, etc)
Switched from an opthomologist to a Lasik doctor who initially thought he could fix it, he has prescribed a contact for astigmatism in that eye which corrects the strength, but does nothing for the double vision.  This would mean I could never drive at night again. He is discouraging a second surgery to replace the implant. I am getting the feeling that this might be a risky surgery and could end up worse than what I have now. I really don't know which way to turn.  Would appreciate an opinion.

I would still recommend a second opinion with a visual field exam.  Seeing the edge of IOL unlikely unless its dislocated. Find a second opinion at www.aao.org

Thank you Dr.

I was told that I am am seeing this due to a slightly constricted pupil and that it will go away. I did not  have a field test, but the doctor looked in my eye and said it was "perfect".

The "block" move with my eye. If I look up I can also see something below. Am I seeing the edge of my lens?

Once again, thank you.

The symptom of blocked peripheral vision is very, very worrisome as it can indicate a retinal detachment, blockage of the arteries or veins in the retina, dislocation of the IOL, even a stroke.

You need to see your Eye MD and you need a Visual Field Exam and a dilated retina exam to rule these conditons out.

Again this could be very serious. Please act immediately.

It is the Acrysoft monofocal.  Before surgery, the cataract completely blocked vision in midday sun (i.e., I could not see cars in front  of me) but improved in lower light. All print was gray-to-light gray.

I did have astygmatism but I don't know how to relate how significant.

rjd, it helps the doctor and forum readers to know what kind of lens you had implanted and what your vision was like before surgery, ie; amount of astigmatism.  One week is really very soon yet.  Let's hope it's going to resolve well for you.
