Cataract Operation

Yesterday i had cataract surgery on my right eye.  All went well.  I have a large amount of astigmatism: why did the doctor use the torque lens and not the lens that offers both far away vision plus close-up vision? I must now buy reading glasses.  Also, will Lasik surgery in the future free me from having to wear reading glasses? Many thanks.  jay in sc

You surgeon probably did you a huge favor by putting a monofocal IOL in your eye instead of a multifocal IOL, much less expensive, much better night vision and far fewer complaints than the other kind. If all you need after the eye has healed is reading glasses consider that a huge bargain and blessing.

Lasik will not help you.  If you're so bothered by needing reading glasses ask the surgeon when he does the second eye to leave it somewhat nearsighted or wear a contact lens over one eye for a week or two to see how you would do with mono-vision.
