Cataract and retina's hole

Dear John Hagan,

I had an eye injury (sport elastics band) seven months ago resulting in cataract and two small holes into my retina. I visited eye specialists in France, Australia, Africa and Brazil; who gave me 50% of vision for lifetime. There are several studies about cataract's surgery, but I was wondering if an hole into the retina could cause a lifetime disability? I haven't done any surgery yet, fortunately my work send me worldwide where I can visit different eye specialists until I find someone who I can trust and try to solve this problem.
I appreciate your time.
Best regards,
Igor

You know on first look you need not spend a fortune globe trotting looking for answers.

1. If your reduced vision is due to the cataract and it is a big problem then cataract surgery should restore all lost vision all of the visiion DUE TO THE CATARACT.

2. If the retinal hole is NOT IN THE MACULA and the retina is attached and the macula normal then cataract surgery should restore normal vision.

3. If the retinal hole is in the macula you have a big problem and depending on the size and depth of the macular hole it may not be possible to restore normal vision.

4. If the retinal holes have detached the retina or are a threat to do so then they need the services of a retina ophthalmologists to close the holes.
