Cataract complications IOLs

Hi Dr  Four weeks ago I had caracrt surgery on one eye and IOL (reZoom) lens placed. Vision in that eye has been problematic, with loss of close up vision and double image of far. I am scheduled for a YAG lasaer surgery to remove a small opaque scar fromed right in the center of my vision, which makes the lens not work correctly. What are the chances that this will make things worse? My age is 53 and vision before was -4.5 for distance and 1.5 for reading. Thanks in advance. A

I can't give you "odds". You can use the search feature and read about all the problems associated with the ReZoom IOL.

You might want to get a second opinion before proceeding with the YAG.  It might complicate a future explant procedure if you decide to replace your ReZoom.

Thank you for your input in this very complex issue--and getting the word out regarding these lenses. I am still within the window to have the ReZoom lens removed. My second opinion, who said he wouldn’t use these lenses on ANYONE, is typically reluctant to speak about another doctor, but he said, “Think hard before you remove it.” It is very hard to get a straight answer, which leads me to believe that this product is not working as they had hoped. Go forward with removing it? At this point, the “plain Jane” cataract replacement lens is looking pretty good, but has that option closed?

There is no easy answer, indeed there is no correct answer but several options. I certainly can't tell you what to do. I would suggest again that you use the search feature and read all the many postings (all unhappy) about the ReZoom IOL.

I would never recommend this IOL to anyone. In a conference of perhaps 150 eye surgeons in Kansas City January 2008 in a raise your hands poll none of the surgeons would have a ReZoom in both eyes and only about 3 would have one in one eye.

If you explant the IOL and get a monofocal (which is NOT a PLAIN JANE lens) get a "aspheric" IOL such as made by Tecnis, B&L and Alcon
