Cataracts and blindness

Can you go blind from having cataracts and if so how long does it typically take?

Dear cheregirl,

Cataracts reduce vision in one’s eyes as a result of the opacities.  The amount of visual loss depends upon the type of cataracts one have.  Thankfully, cataracts are able to be surgically treated if they are interfering with one’s eyesight and activities of daily living.
