Chance of Child Myopia

Hi,

Myself is myopic with spectacle from the age of 10. My eye power is stable from age of 21 and at my present age of 30 my power is -8 D with -1 Cylindrical. My wife is also myopic with -6 D with -1 Cylindrical. In future would our children will be also myopic ?

Please suggest, if any corrective or preventive measures we can take so that our child will be free from myopia.

1. THere are no exact studies to give you  % of your child becoming myopia but probably its at least 50%.
2. Other than trying to prevent a low birth weight there is nothing that you can do.
3. There was concern about keeping lights on in the nursery but this study is dubvious as a cause of myopia.

There are a lot of worse things to be in life than myopic.

Thanks for the Comments. Can you please provide some information, in case our child become myopic, what are the treatment available to completely curing the same, particularly at early age.Else you may refer some website for such information.

Myopia is not a disease, nor does it mean the eye is unhealthy. (I have myopia). Generally its a healthy eye that is out of focus and needs glasses, contacts or when stable and the person older LASIK

Dear Doctor,

Is there any surgical treatment available at early change so that the child don't need any spectacles ? Before the birth of child can we have some gene treatment to avoid child with myopia or other hereditary eye disease.

Hi Aditya,
                You are panicking for no reason ...there are tens of thousands of people with your prescription and there kids dont always end up with bad eyesight....

I was -20 ...both eyes..correct ...I have 2 daughters ...3 and 6 and neither need glasses........ok...my wifes vision is fine...but the chances of my children having glasses was high....but the grace of Krishna.....no problems....leave it to god ....ceartain things we cannot change....sure all will be fine....and as dr says ...there is nothing wrong with small  myopia...the eye is equally healthy ...allbeit you have to wear glasses....no cause for worry atall
