Chicago cataract surgeon after first complication surgery

Whom would you recommend for a second surgery in Chicago? After the first cataract I developed macular edema up to 4 and a reaction to the  injection given to me by a retinal specialist. I can still read, but my only with glasses. I have fibromyalgia and tend to have difficultiespost surgery. I don't travel well, but if absolutely necessary I might to get this done. Deathly afraid I will not be able to see after 2nd cataract operation, so am putting it off as long as possible. I always used my two eyes differently.

Any recommendations besides antinflammatories beforehand to prevent this?

I'm sorry to learn about your bad experience.  I know how difficult it is to find a good doctor.  The doctors listed by Castle-Connolly are all board-certified and respected by their peers.  There are also excellent doctors who are not listed.  I'd suggest getting recommendations from more than one cataract surgeon, and then choosing the one you feel most comfortable with.

Thank you so much for mentioning Castle-Connolly.  I have been reading so much on this board and other places it is starting to get overwhelming.  I joined the Castle-Connolly member site so I could check who is near me and your mentioned doctors as well as Dr Hagan's mentioned doctor are still there.  I may go to them or another on the list, but I feel so much better now that I know there is somewhere, that i can check on a doctor after the horrific experience I had recently with the Opthamologist I almost had surgery with here.  Thank Goodness for this board and the internet, I now have made my own opinion about that practice, and believe it to be an eye "mill", running people in and out so fast my spun, without a care for anyone.

Giving monofocal  or monovision iols a serious thought now for my cataracts.

God Bless.

It would really help if you could get recommendations from a local ophthalmologist.  If that's not possible, Castle-Connolly lists a couple of Chicago ophthalmologists who specialize in cataract surgery in their "Best Doctors in America" directory.  They are Dr. Robert Feder 312-695-8150 affiliated with Northwestern University Medical Center and Dr. Thomas John 708-429-2223 affiliated with Loyola University Medical Center South Suburban Hospital.
