Clogged tear duct 3 year old
My 3-year old is scheduled to have surgery to unclog her left eye tear duct. This eye has watered on and off since she was a baby. It has gone months on end with no symptoms and then every once in a while it will start watering again and causes her mild discomfort. We had a 1 minute consultation with a pediatric ophthalmologist, who looked in her eye, clearly saw the pooling of tears and said my daughter needs to have surgery to unclog it and it will take place under general anesthesia. My questions: !) What risks are there for a 3-year old with general anesthesia and 2) Does this seem like a good choice? If we don't have the surgery, will this problem be a major nuisance in her life?

Thanks,
Nervous Mom
