Color spots seen in vision

Color spots seen in vision

my daughter who is five and half is seeing color spots in both her eyes. She sees them with her eyes closed as well as open. they are different colors and round but sometimes she says they look like mountains and some had sticks like lollipops.  We have taken her to see an opthalmologist who has determined she is far sighted as well as astigmatic but we still have to see a paediatric opthalmologist to get the glasses. We are worried about the spots which can not be explained by the eye doctor. He thinks that it is the strain on the eyes which causes it but she sees them first thing in the morning as well. Please help.

Children your daughter's age are difficult to evalute. They often have vivid imaginations and sometimes invent symptoms to gain attention or that have other secondary gains. The problem is that working up these from a neurological perspective is very expensive and time consuming and might involve see a neurologist having a MRI, EEG and other tests.

I would discuss this with the pediatric opthalmologist and your pediatrician. If she has no other symptoms they may advise "watchful waiting".

If there is a family history of migraine or seizure disorders then these may need to be ruled out.
