Regarding question and answer of 14Jan07 re possibility of tonic water having caused retinal damage ...
On the crew bus to the airport after an overseas layover sometime during the 90s, we were reading an international newspaper and there was an article about the U.S. Navy having ordered their pilots to discontinue the drinking of tonic water before flights. (I can't remember now if it was for 24 or 48 hours) The article said that they could drink alcohol up to 20 hours before any flights, but absolutely no tonic water. The article said that pilots' eyesight was being affected.
Sorry that's all the info I can remember. I believe the article was in the International Herald. But for further information, you could contact the U.S. Navy Medical Dept.
