Complications of Detachment

Hi,
My brother had a Vitecrectomy in June.  After surgery his vision in that eye decreased to the point that in Nov. he required surgery due to an additional membrane growing over his eye.  During surgery his retina detached.  This was sealed with a bubble.  On the 28th he seemed to be seeing better but I did notice his eye was very red and watery.  His retina detached again on the 2dn of Jan.  He was not aware the last 2 weeks of recovery time was very important.  I talk to my brother without his wife knowing as she does not like our family therefore I cannot talk to his Dr.  Is there anything he should watch for, be concerned about after this surgery?  I have told him repeatedly that he needs to stop doing housework etc and he said his Dr. said it will not impact recovery - he has 4 boys at home and chaos and she will not help.  How much does the stress of this play on the healing process?  I completely understand the advice you give is a reflection of your experiances and he will need to talk to his Dr.  He is already legally blind in one eye and I do not want to have him lose all vision at 40 years old.

Thank you!

Thank you!

With my first 4 retina surgeries, I had to be face down 50 minutes of every hour for 5-7 days. No bending, heavy lifting, swimming, exercising--only some walking. Do you mean that the FIRST two weeks of recovery have restrictions? The restrictions usually extend beyond that--in regard to swimming, lifting, etc.

The doctor here will tell you more.

Thank you.  This is helpful  He was told no heavy lifting other then that housework etc. was ok.  My concern is the face down part.  Everything I have read indicates some type of posturing after surgery yet this was not mentioned to him.
