Dr. Linder,
Since opthalmic plastic surgery is your specialty, I have a question for you.
I have asked a few oculists, but they cannot answer my question.
I wear a scleral shell in my left eye(microphthalmia) and have for the past 17 years. Prior to the fitting, a conjunctival flap was done. The flap has worn very thin over the years, so much that I can see the eye, there is a tiny hole in the center of it as well. On occasion, I will have extreme pain in the eye. I'm not sure if it is because the flap is so thin or it's the eye itself causing the pain. I keep the shell cleaned and polished to avoid irritation.
Has a conjunctival flap ever had to be redone after becoming so thin?
Thanks
