Cornea Scar

I had a tree branch puncture my cornea about 3 months ago.  A small scar has formed abot 1/8 inch below my pupil as i have been told by the doctor.  The scar is about 50% through the cornea. My vision is still pretty good just a little bit worse then my other eye but not much still 20/20 but just a little bit of a blur.  The biggest thing is that certain light and wind can really irritate it.  When that happens it feels like there is something in my eye and my eye wants to shut and is very irritated but then will go away after a few days.  My question is how long does it take for the cornea scar such as mine to fully fully heal?  I have been told different things from it taking 3 months, 6 months and even 12 months to fully heal as the cornea scar has a very slow healing process and over time the scar can get smaller and the sensativity can go away and maybe even completely heal. Can it get smaller over time and cause my eye to be less sensative to sunlight and wind like it was before?  Also can I do any harm to the eye by just waiting and seeing if it will heal more over time? It just feels like when it is irritated i am hurting it and i get worried about it. Is there anything i can be doing to speed up the healing process?  Is there anything else I can do?  i have been told surgery may not even be an option.

Thanks John.  One more thing.  I have tried all of the drops you listed and even the presevative free ones but for some reason whenever I use a drop my eye gets more irratated and the drops even make the vision blury.  Is there a reason for this? Is there anything else i could do. Also when I went to the optimologist last week he dialated my eyes and the one with scar has been more sensative since then and even caused more blyr in my eye since then and that was 4 days ago.  Is there something that could have done?

I can't answer the question about waiting but I doubt you will do any damage.  You can try artifical tears such as Systane, Refresh, Genteal or Soothe XP

Thanks John.  Can I do any harm by waiting? This is my biggest concern because i have good days and bad days with it. It just seems like it can get irritated easily and then my eye gets a little blurrier and itches a little more and I just dont want it to get worse.  Is there a drop that can make it heal faster and make it less sensative?  If so what brand and drop do you recomend.  Thanks

It is likely that your symptoms will get better with time. A time for maturation of a cornea scar of 6 months would be a ballpark number. Try a hat, sunglasses and artifical tears.
