Cornea Transplant on Nov.2, 2009

by Frankie62, Jul 27, 2009 11:37PM
Actually I am writing about my mom. She is 91 and will be having her second corna transplant (on same eye)  on Nov. 2,, 2009 due to Fusch Dystrophy.  First transplant was done in 2001.  She does not have sight in her other eye.  Can you please tell me what she can do to prevent the blisters from bursting until  the surgery.  Her doctor did tell her to put extra drops (128 Muro 5%) in 5 X/day, and maybe an extra dose of the Euromycin (sp?) ointintment (she usually put this in at bedtime).  - do you have any other suggestion .  She feels like something is in her eye about 1X/wk and the doctor told her this is a blister.  I read on computer to also use a hair blow dryer on blisters -what do you think?  I am a nervous wreck waiting for the surgery.  She also has very limited sight right now, but I want to make her comfortable.  The doctor only  performs surgery the 1st Monday  of each month.  Any suggestions to keep eye healthy until surgery.will be much apprectiated.
I will give my health history at another time on my Profile.  THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT.
Also what is the success rate of her having any kind of sight with a second transplant in same eye.
Thank you, Joan

Hair dryier is very old therapy.

Muro 128 ointment 4-6 times day is common RX.

Other option is to put a bandage contact lens on worn 24/7 to prevent the pain of broke blisters

Ask the cornea surgeon if she is a candidate for DSEAK surgery. Use the search feature to read about that RX
