Cornea

Hi,

My mum had a cornea transplant done about 1 year ago. Prior to that she had cataract surgery done. She says her vision is really bad and she still can't see anything clearly and its very blurr. She went to india recently to get their opinion and they said that the cells or something like that...its not regenarating. I am really worried for her and her other eye may also need a cornea transplant as well. She stresses out heaps and her sugar level goes up as she as diabetics. I dont know what to do and the doctors and surgeons dont know either. Pls help!

Thank you,
Shanti Herat

I really don't know how I can help you. Apparently she had a coneal transplant that is failing or was rejected and the other cornea is going bad now. She likely will need corneal transplants on both eye. She will need to see the best possible cornea surgeon she has access too.  It is also imporant that the rest of the eye be okay as if she has retina damage from diabetes the corneal transplant willnot take care of that.

Thanks for that, Dr. Hagan. So you reckon she would need a transplant on both her eyes? what would be the worse case scenario if she did that? totally blind? If she did have retina damage, can that be fixed? It sounds to me, she needs a miracle to gain sight.
