What is a Sub-Retinal Neo-Vascularization procedure?

Posted by HFHS MD - NI on June 05, 1999 at 23:30:52
Subretinal neovascularization is abnormal blood vessels which grow under the retina most commonly in macular degeneration.  This is also known as "wet" macular degeneration.
There are several possible treatments including laser and surgery.  The most important variables in the success of these treatments include the duration of the blood vessels, their location under the retina and the underlying disease.
For more specifics about any treatment, the patient needs to see a retina specialist and have his individual case evaluated.
