Cost of Crystalens

Is there a standard cost to Medicare patients for the Crystalens H D. If not, what is the average cost exclusive of the cost of surgery.

I paid $3,000 out of pocket (after insurance) for one Crystalens HD here in Northern California. I think it is whatever the market will bear. I understand in retirement areas, like Florida, where there is much more competition, it is significantly cheaper.

I'd check with the Ins/Medicare and see if the provider is allowed to charge you in excess of what they pay.

I am scheduled for IOL's in early January. We haven't finalized the lens choice yet, but I am leaning toward Crystalens HD. The doctor claimed that the HD costs him quite a bit more than the plain Crystalens, although he isn't yet passing those extra costs along.

Are you aware of a wholesale and/or retail cost difference between Crystalens and Crystalens HD?

The extra cost for Crystalens HD is $2500 per lens in NM. So some cost variation across the country.

I double checked the cost of a premium IOL for a medicare patient and I was in Error. Our practice charges $2650/eye over Medicare allowable for a Crystalens HD IOL.

Sorry my error.

That is quite a bit more expensive that what it costs in Kansas City< MO. I do not know if there are that much regional variation.

I was charged $3100 per lens exclusive of what Medicare paid. Was I ripped off? Blackwell69

No it varies. An average would be an extra $1500/eye.
