Could this indicate something serious?

I am a healthy 62 year old with no serious medical issues. I have this thing with my eyes I get from time to time which seems to be occurring more frequently - like every few days. I'll be doing something in a bright area for a few minutes, like outdoors in full sunshine. Then when I go into a darker area, like indoors or in the shade, I'll notice a very bright irregular shape with a small black center in the middle of one or both eyes. It appears almost translucent pinkish blue in colour and is visible whether or not my eyes are open or closed. It moves around a little but the shape itself is constant. This bright patch gradually fades and is usually gone within 15 minutes.  What is this and should I see an eye doctor about it?  Thanks.

It is an afterimage and for the most part normal.  The fact that it takes more than 15 minutes to resolve is a little odd as it should be gone in a couple of minutes.  If you haven't had an eye exam in the last year by an eye MD / ophthalmologist, make an appointment and have them make sure you have no maculopathy.
