I'm sorry but it is not so simple as that.  There were even some surgeon who preferrd the crystalens 5-O over the HD.  There is now the crystalens AO which is the newer version.  There is certainly no perfect IOL and it basically takes a skilled and experienced eye surgeon (ophthalmologist) who can assess your needs and physical findings and suggest the IOL that might best serve your purposes.  If you have more specific questions please post again.

The information regarding what Bausch & Lomb has done in redesigning their IOL is considered "proprietary" information, so I have been told; which means they are not obligated to devulge anything that they don't want potential competition to know; however, you can contact Consumer Relations from the B&L website and see what they can tell you regarding what problems were addressed and how changes were made with each redesign effort. I suggest you call rather than e-mail and ask for Mary Carvahal.

You have been very helpful regarding my opthalmolic issues, allowing me to make some educated decisions.

I have ruled out the multifocals, as they sound a little too risky & too difficult to reverse.
At some point in the future, I will have to get a cateract removed from one eye, which leads me to wonder what would be done with the other eye.

I do have hypothyroidism & a little astigmatism the the eye with the cateract.  I would like to have good enough intermediate vision to see price tags when shopping without having to pull my readers out each time.  I believe my current question would be, "what is the best & safest surgery & lens, that would give me the best eyesight without a lot of risk"?

Thank you all,
