Custom Wavefront Lasik for bilateral monocular triplopia?

Custom Wavefront Lasik for bilateral monocular triplopia?

I have triple vision in both eyes, and this started to become noticeable about 4 years ago.  I'm myopic, astigmatic, presbiotic, and do not have cataracts.  I have perfect vision using pinhole glasses.  A scan from an iZon Z-View Aberrometer shows severe HOAs of all 5 types, especially trefoil and spherical, in both eyes.  The location of the trefoil aberrations on the printout is a mirror image of the triangles of light points that I see.  The iZon lenses did not help at all.  Hard contacts improve my vision, but only slightly.  Should I investigate custom wavefront lasik?  My concerns are that 1) lasik might cause additional HOAs, and 2) that my vision seems to be changing still (triplopia getting worse).  Are there other possible solutions on the horizon?

See at least one other corneal surgeon ophthalmologist for a second opinion. The use of lasik for your problem is experimental. Get at least 2 Eye MDs recommending it before you do it.

May I ask what HOAs are? What is causing your triple vision? Is it some kind of bad astigmatism?

High Order Aberrations.  Here's a good description:

Yes, that is what causes my triple vision.

Just wanted to provide an update on my situation to anyone interested.  I visited an ophthalmologist a couple weeks ago who did find cataracts in both eyes.  He believed that these were causing a prism effect, and hence the HOAs and triple vision (which matched the few articles I have found online about monocular triplopia).  He could not explain why the 3 optometrists I've been to in the last few years did not see them.  Perhaps cataracts may not be visible during early formation?

Just had cataract surgery with implantation of Crystalens IOLs in both eyes.  I now have a single very sharp image, and I am not needing glasses for computer work or reading.  Eye doctors use the term "20/happy"....I am "20/ECSTATIC!!"...

Thank you, Dr. Hagan, for your advice to so many vision-troubled people on this forum.

You are welcome. Happy for your good result. Your experience just substantiates the point I've made many times that the training of a non-MD optometrist is substantially less than the MD physician ophthalmologist.
