Cylindrical Eyes

Few days back, we got the information from my son:s school teacher that we should go for my son eye check.
After eye test, we came to know that my son is having cyclindrical eyes. He is 6 years old. After check up, doctor informed the following results: Right side Cyl 4.0, Axis 180°, Left Side Cyl 4.5, Axis 180°, IPD 55mm.
We are really worried because he was very normal.
We never observed any problem in him till today.
Can anyone guide us for above problem.
1) Can this problem rectified ?
2) After wearing glasses the eyes will be normal or not ?
3) What is the meaning of above test results ? (Right side Cyl 4.0, Axis 180°, Left Side Cyl 4.5, Axis 180°, IPD 55mm)
4) What is the permanent soultion for above problem?

1. You son has "astigmatism" usually due to a cornea that is aspheric rather than round. It's corrected with cylindric lens. Its not a disease.

I would suggest you get a second opinion for another eye doctor but be sure to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist physician. Unfortunately some of these school screening programs are notorious for giving all the kids glasses to boost their profits.

Dear Sir,

Thanx for your reply.
Actually above tests results were informed by Doctor itself not by school.
He is MBBS MS (Opth).
Can you please suggest something for my below queries : -
The Doctore (MBBS, MS - Opth) informed the following test results
Right side Cyl 4.0, Axis 180°
Left Side Cyl 4.5, Axis 180°
IPD 55mm.

If that is your son's RX then he does need glasses. I explained in 1 above what astigmatism is.  Google "astigmatism" and read about it.

If you are not comfortable with what you were told then get a second opinion.
