Difference in monofocal lenses

Difference in monofocal lenses

I have been told that I need cataract surgery for both eyes.  A local eye surgery center recommended Restor lenses but our family eye surgeon only does monofocal lenses.  He said that the added costs does not bring that much added benefit and most people still need glasses for some vision.  What is the difference between the standard monofocal lense covered by Medicare and the Toric Rejuvenate monofocal lense?  Is it worth the premium?  Are there any problems?  I have very sensitive eyes so I believe that I would have a problem with the Restore.  Also have some astigmatism.  I've worn glasses since the age of 3 so the thought of no glasses was great, but I don't need the problems at this point in time (age 68).  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

From my experience and that of others, stay away fro the Restor lens.It is terrible.  You have to give up so much with this lens  not to wear glasses but you still would need glasses. anyway. And forget about night driving!  I hade the Restor lens  explanted for a monofocal lens.  There is plenty of imput on this forum as Dr. O has stated.  Due the research and you will find valuable infornation. Click on my user name and it will bring you to several posts. Also, the premium cost is very high and not covered by Medicare and not worth it.  Good luck.

i had restor lenses implanted in both eyes, i am 64, i have worn glasses since i was very young.  i also had astigmatism corrected in my right eye at the time of surgery.  unfortunately, i had a capsular tear and the lens had to be installed in front of the capsule.  i am seeing very well 20/15 distance and 20/20 up close.  i am having some blurriness up close, overall, i see a whole lot better than i ever could aqnd without glasses.
