Dilation of pupil

by SarahW10, Aug 23, 2007 08:56PM
My daughter is 16 and had her eyes dilated yesterday - the dr said it was stronger then the normal dilation. What is the normal time frame of when the dilation wears off?  She had her eyes dilated Wednesday about 3 PM and it is now Thursday at 10 PM and they are still dilated.  Should I be concerned?

In general no especially since you were told the drops were stronger than normal. If you daughter has blue, gray or green eyes and is light complected the drops will last longer than a dark complected, brown eye.   You can check with the doctor's office. If they used "cyclogel" the drops could keep the pupil dilated up to 48 hours.     If they used Homatropine or atropine (which is very unsusual for a routine exam) it could take 3-7 days.
