Diplopia BEFORE cataract surgery

Diplopia BEFORE cataract surgery

Hi, I've Googled like crazy, but can find no information on: what if I have fairly significant diplopia BEFORE cataract surgery?  (significant to me, anyway - my Rx is 5  B.O., .50  B. U. OD and 5  B.O., .50  BD OS).
Is that something that is/can be corrected in the course of the procedure?
Will it be 'cured'/resolved AFTER the procedure?  One reason I am asking is that my lenses are quite expensive - I also need progressives sometimes, bifocals in my work, and am fairly astigmatic. (Sphere -4.75 OD and -3.75 OS).
I just don't understand how that aspect works. Thanks!

1. No it cannot be correct at time of cataract IOL surgery.
2. Cataract surgery will not cure the problem, likely will stay same, some chance could get worse
