When I was considering cataract surgery last year, an opthamologist told me "If you were my brother, I would tell you to stop jogging" She felt it increased the risk of RD.
Since then, I have asked numerous eye care professionals (including several Retina Specialists) about this and none agreed. They all said it was ok to jog. I still don't know about jogging after cataract surgery.
I used to run marathons up until about 20 years ago, currently I'm much more moderate with my exercise, I jog slowly on a treadmill 3 days a week and use the elliptical machine 2 days a week, and do light weight training 3 days a week.
In 1987, I was training for a triathalon and was riding my bike early one morning and was struck from behind by a Ford Bronco that was going about 60 mph. Thankfully, I was wearing a helmet and thankfully when I landed it was in a soft ditch next to the road. I ended up with a 50% compression fracture of my T-7 vertebrae. Thankfully, after 21 years I have no trouble at all, although I wonder if it's possible this accident could have contributed to my early development of cataracts. I've heard that blunt force injuries can do that and/or cause RD.
Does anyone know about possible risks jogging poses for the human eye?
