Double vision after retinal detachment surgery

Double vision after retinal detachment surgery

6 weeks after retinal detachment surgery I have double vision, and very poor vision in the affected eye - I see shapes and colors only.  My surgeon says all is healed and both are common.  She was very discouraging as for improvement and said I may see some improvement in a year or two. I can live with poor vision in that eye, but the double vision is extremely debilitating. Life would be easier with no vision in that eye.  I cover it frequently.  Any hopes for improvement?  How are others coping?  Can glasses correct double vision?
