Dry eyes after lasik - treatment options?

Posted by Fr. Craig Botterill on June 18, 1999 at 12:17:12
I had lasik on both eyes ten days ago.  I had never suffered from dry eyes before, but now it is unbearable.  I put so many drops in my eyes by day and lubricant by night that it interferes with daily living.  My eyes are very sore.
My eye surgeon seems perplexed, and says that he must have cut the nerves which tell the brain that I need to tear.  He "thinks" these may regenerate over the next few months.  I asked about tear drain plugs, which I read about here, for relief, but he said no, they may come out and interfere my eyes.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I disagree.  I would recommend punctal plugs.  If they are put in properly, they are unlikely to come out.  They can be removed later, once things settle down.  Speak to your surgeon again about this.  I would agree that this should improve with time.
