Enlarged Lacrimal Caruncle

Hi,

For couple days now, the inside corners of my eyes, the lacrimal caruncle, have been enlarged. They do not seem to be very red or inflamed, but the increase in size is concerning to me. The night before they became enlarged, I did not get much sleep, which may have caused this. Right now, my eyes are dry so I've been using artificial tears 3-4 times a day along with warm compresses. I'm afraid this may be an infection, but it's not painful, not very red, no visible discharge (just some rheum during the day, very little at that) and it's not really itchy.

Is this an abscess and do I need to get this drained? Or will warm compresses and eye drops be good enough?

I attached some picture below. I think the lighting makes it seem more red than it is; when I look at it in the mirror, it seems like the normal shade of pink.

The caruncle is immune to serious problems except in the most rare instances. Take a shower, wash your face and eyelids well. Use some artificial tears; it your eyes itch use an allergy drop like Alaway or Zaditor.

I too have the same issue. I have recently visibly noticed caruncle inflammation and dryness in both eyes. I did visit an ophthalmologist who said "all is quiet" and that I should use warm compresses and if I really need to the eye lubricant "Refresh" single dosage without preservative. The redness increases and decreases throughout the day. I am fatigued babying it with warm compresses and eye drops 12-15 times a day. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have the same problem. I noticed it yesterday when my eye felt discomfort. I thought there was something in the eye. I think caruncle in both of my eyes have it but the right one seems worse. The optometrist said it was a case of meibomia gland dysfunction and the caruncle was a normal size for me. I don't agree with the caruncle comment. Let me know what you find out.

The photograph also seems to show some swelling in the palpebral conjunctiva. Please see an ophthalmologist.
