Exercise and PVD

by cybear, Jul 18, 2009 01:33PM
I've been diagnosed with PVD and was told not to engage in any "aggressive" type of exercise (anything more than a walk) for 3 weeks.  I believe the idea is to avoid any activities that are impactful or jarring such as running.  What about strength training?  Should lifting weights or engaging in body weight functional movements, i.e. push-ups, lunges, squats, etc. be avoided as well?  I can back off from running since it is impactful, but what about aggressive, but non-impactful cardio exercise such as spinning?  Does an increase in the heart rate affect the healing process?  Three weeks is a long time to "take a break" from my workouts, but will do so if there is a risk of leading to a torn or detached retina.
Thanks!

Please call your ophthalmologist since he is responsible for your care. It is expecially important, in my opinion to avoid jarring activities like jumping, running, face down exercise like pushups, downward dog yoga, etc.  Walking, stationary bike,  light weight lifting might be OK but again, I'm not your doctor so please talk to yours.
