Eye Dilation in patient with narrow angles

by Deuter, Jul 27, 2009 12:08AM
Hi,
I was sent to a retinal specialist to have my right eye examined regarding an area that appears bumpy and may pull away from the retina and possibly detach it.  He diagnosed me with narrow angles, less than 10%, particularly in the eye needing dilation, and recommended having a small hole made with a laser to prevent an attack of narrow angle glaucoma, which could occur 20% of the time.  Is this a common procedure with little risk, and should I also not take medications that have warnings regarding narrow angle glaucoma.  I take Imitrex for migraine headaches, and also amytriptoline as a preventative.  I also take a diuretic each day for high blood pressure.  Could any of these have caused the problem, and would stopping taking them eliminate the need for the procedure.  I also have a small cataract in the affected eye, which he said adds to the pressure.  I am a 60 year old female with pretty strong long distance lenses.  Thanks for any and all information.
