Eye Strain & Hallucinations

My nephew has an incense burner that he believes he can see pictures inside by using a simple jeweler's eye glass.  I looked inside using this, and I too saw what I determined to be hallucinations from eye strain.  He went off the deep end and believes that this is the Urim and Thummin of the Bible.  What is amazing is that he has shown this to hundreds of people who also hallucinate various pictures when they look. This has resulted in the birth of a new religious movement and a film documentary.  See http://www.utmovie.com   Is there a name for this phenomenon?  It seems that the eye strain causes these hallucinations, which are very vivid.  The tool markings within the stone set the stage for the mind creating these visions.  Please explain.

You know the world and the internet are full of the weirdest things imaginable that a certain segment of the world's population seems to enjoy believing in them. I don't believe in dividing rods, mediums, tea and palm reading, UFO, etc.

It keeps some people amused so I guess that's okay.  I have better things to do with my time on this forum then to get into the paranormal.
