Eye blister alternative treatments

I went to my opthamologist and he diagnosed a blister on the white of my eye. He said steroid drops were recommended. However, three members of my maternal family took steroids for other conditions and had BOTH retinas detach within a week. It was concluded this is a genetic reaction to steroids. So, I don't know if I will have that reaction or not, but don't want to risk it and neither does my doctor.
Anyone have alternative suggestions?

You can always try lubricants only, or perhaps a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drop like Xibrom or Voltaren.  I have to be honest that I am at least a little bit skeptical about the retinal detachment cause.  I have never heard of this problem but will try do some research on this.
