Eye freckle

I had an eye exam with a photo picture of my eye that detected an eye freckle. The exam 1 year ago with dilation did not show this or any of my exams in the past. The eye doctor recommended we check it in another month and if it grows she would send me to a retinal specialist. Should I wait or just find a good retinal specialist NOW?  I'm over 50 and wondering if that affects the likelihood that it is something more serious than just a freckle? How do I find the best retinal specialist in Illinois?

I would not worry about a freckle (probably a nevus) unless it is large. Is this doctor an optometrist?  If so, just see an ophthalmologist.

Thank you for the comforting response. Yes, the doctor is an optometrist. I will look for an ophthalmologist.
