Eye position instability?

For years, my eyes have had a tendency that when I move them, the scene itself seems to move with it, rather changing from one point to another on a still scene. Due to this, I can make it seem like there's an earthquake going on simply by moving my eyes around frenetically. This leads to trouble with reading comprehension, because whenever I move my eyes along the line, the line moves with it, so my eyes land a few words away from where I meant to point them. I have to force my eyes to keep the scene still when I read.

I don't think this is a binocular problem, because I patched one eye for a few days and the problem is still present with the unpatched eye.

I am 21 years old, near-sighted, and have been diagnosed with exophoria at near (convergence insufficiency) and hyperphoria.

What could be causing this? Is there a name for this condition? Thanks for your input.

No exact fit but try palinopsia and look at the references below

Thanks for your input, Dr. Hagan. I'm trying to find the posts you speak of with similar observations...do you know what keywords I should search for?

Over the past 6 years we've had some people post observations like yours.  No one has had a definitive diagnosis. Most have had for many years without anything serious developing.  ]

If you wish to pursue further diagnostic work up suggest you see a neuro-ophthalmologist. Find one near you at www.geteyesmart.org
