Eye problems

I have been experiencing vertical double vision since January objects are not doubled it is always something bright. Like I see double headlights on cars at night and early in the morning and when I look at restuaraunt signs at night they are half doubled. Also I see halos around bright lights at night. And if I look down for a while and then look at the tv that is displaying the channel number I can see an object in the middle on top and on bottom. If I close one eye the problem does not change it is in both eyes and I also experience blurred vision but can blink it away. I had an MRI in the middle of last December I experience no headaches. I am 20 years old and work 60+ hours a week on a construction job. Any help would be appreciated

Sudden onset of double vision is (like chest pain) a serious symptom. Causes could include strokes, tumors, sinus disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, eye muscle disorders, cataracts, etc.

See an Eye MD ophthalmologist in the very near future find one at www.aao.org

Opie, do you notice this problem when reading?

If you change the angle of your head, such as tipping your head upward, does the doubling go away?

For maybe 5-6 years I've had vertical ghosting such that I see ghost images above the real one, but not in proportion to the size of the object--for example, I'll see a ghost letter above the real one that's maybe 1/3 the size, but I'll see ghosting above my computer monitor or a teacup that is only about 1/4 inch high.

My ghosting occurs either when I'm very tired (sleep-deprived) OR after I've been reading (or otherwise using my eyes) while looking down. Thus, it's caused by either fatigue or eye movement in a downward position. I can read all day on the computer (straight ahead) with no problem but get the ghosting after just a very few minutes of reading something on a table or in my lap. It takes about half an hour to go away after I stop reading, but if I have ghosting due to sleep deprivation, it lasts all day.

I've seen two optometrists, one ophthalmologist, and one neuro-ophthalmologist and they have no explanation for it. But they did give me some special strong reading glasses that keep it from occurring.

The ghosting disappears abruptly if I tip my head upward far enough. It makes very little or no difference if I cover one eye or the other. The ghosting thus occurs separately in each eye.

Also sometimes when I've been reading looking down and the ghosting occurs, my left eye feels very funny, a kind of odd "weak" feeling that's hard to describe.

I too see this ghosting more strongly or frequently if I'm looking at a light object on a dark background, such as the moon or white letters on a black background.

If you find anything out about this, please post!

What was your MRI for? Apparently that was prior to your double vision onset? So you must be having some other symptoms? I've had four brain MRIs (due to hearing loss and possible MS) but not since the ghosting started. I'm now 52.
