Eye puffs and hurts like somethings in it but nothings is there

My left eye and only my left  eye out of the blue one day swelled up almost completely shut It hurt like something was in it looked  nothing girlfriend looked she also say nothing. Then with in 2 days swelling was down and I was fine.  A week or two  later again my left eye swelled up not as bad as the first time but still felt like something was in it and again  could not find anything.  Again a week or two later it swelled up again went away in a day. Today it swelled again and feels like there is something in it and I cant see anything. Every time there is a whitish fluid in the eye around the lid. It is always my left eye and mainly swelling of  my lower lid.

Any idea what could be causing this?

I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD to determine the cause of your swelling and whether this might represent an infection of the tear sac or other etiology.
